| MetCom issued the current Standard Specifications for Water and Sewer Construction, on July 22, 1998 (Standard Specifications). These Standard Specifications include seventeen sections, three Appendices, and one set of Standard Details. The Standard Specifications provide a summary of information, procedures, criteria, and practices which are applicable to the design and construction of water and sewer utilities by land developers in St. Mary's County. MetCom desires to revise these Standard Specifications. | |||||||||
| The revised Standard Specifications will consist of three parts: | |||||||||
| 1. Water and Sewer Design Manual | |||||||||
| 2. Specifications for Water and Sewer Construction | |||||||||
| 3. Standard Details for Construction | |||||||||
| The revised Standard Specifications are intended to assist land developers and engineers with designing and constructing public water and wastewater facilities within St. Mary's County. The requirements and criteria in the Standard Specifications are applicable to Developer projects and MetCom capital projects. | |||||||||
| PLANNING JUSTIFICATION: | |||||||||
| The last update of the current Standard Specifications for Water and Sewer Construction was on July 22,1998. Since that time, advancement of construction methods and materials for water and sewer construction has occurred which has necessitated the updating of the specifications. The need to separate out the design of water and sewer facilities and the construction of water and sewer facilities into separate coherent documents has become evident in recent years to ensure greater clarity. The design of water and sewer facilities manual will elaborate on the current design manual to provide design engineers greater guidance on how water and sewer construction plans should be layed out as well as MetCom's requirement for the design of well houses and sewer pumping stations. The Specifications for Water and Sewer Construction will be reformatted to adhere to the format of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), which is the national standard for the organization of construction documents. The Standard Details for Construction will incorporate additional details currently not found in the current MetCom Standard Specifications. | |||||||||
