| The Town Creek Water System was originally built in the 1950s and was formally a stand-alone water system. MetCom later took over operation of this system and incorporated it into what is now the Lexington Park Water System. The water mains in Town Creek not only do not meet current MetCom specifications, but are now almost 60 years old and reaching the end of their useful life. Additionally, due to the layout of many of the water services serving the existing homes, individual water meters cannot be installed and water usage cannot be accurately tracked. As such, the existing water mains will need to be abandoned and new water mains will be engineered and constructed. | |||||||||
| PLANNING JUSTIFICATION: | |||||||||
| The existing water infrastructure in Town Creek has not only reached its useful life, but is also undersized in many areas. Additionally, water meters cannot be installed to several homes in this area due to the configuration of the water services. Due to the undersized mains, fire flow is currently not provided in many areas currently served by public water. The reconfiguration of the water mains in Town Creek will provide adequate fire protection. | |||||||||
