Southampton Water & Sewer Rehabilitation Phase 2

Background

The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County (CSMC) have identified the Southampton Subdivision for infrastructure improvements to sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm drainage, utilities and streets. During joint meetings between the CSMC and the St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission (MetCom), it was agreed that the water and sewer system rehabilitation project will be accomplished in cooperation and coordination with the St. Mary’s County Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T) neighborhood revitalization project. The extent of the work included in Phases 1 is shown in the above map.

Project Scope of Work

The water system built in the 1940’s has reached the end of its useful life, approximately 80 years for cast iron, and is in need of upgrading, mains, valves and fire hydrants. Phase 2 of this project will replace approximately 2500 linear feet of 8" waterline through the remainder of the subdivision on Lincoln Ave, Brighton Ave, and Cambridge Ave.

The sewer system also built in the 1940’s has reached the end of its useful life, approximately 50 years for clay pipe, and needs rehabilitation. The sewer work consists of the rehabilitation and/or replacement of approximately 4800 feet of sewer mains. The intent will be to rehabilitate the existing sewer mains and laterals by the method of point repairs and relining to rehabilitate the system.

Further infrastructure improvements to roads, sidewalks, curb and gutter, and storm drains will be managed and handled by the St Mary’s County Department of Public Works.
